Demons

The worst kind of demons
Are the kind that are birthed within you,
The kind that claw and bite their way from
The inside.
Never stopping
Never resting
Never allowing you to
Catch your breath.
They are born from your memories
From your experience-
From life-
And they follow you
In darkness
And in light
Flitting from shadow to shadow
Casting their own
Destruction.  
Demolishing from the core.
You run
And scream
And beg for release
Beg for a moment without
The slicing claws,
The snapping teeth
The shattering pain…
Until you realize you cannot escape
You cannot run
Or hide
Or even die
To rid yourself of them.

There is only one thing you can do:
Stand and fight.
